Aluminum Recycling in Las Vegas: Common Materials and How to Identify Them
Aluminum turns up in cans, frames, sheet, and shop offcuts all over Las Vegas. Clean pieces are worth recycling.

Aluminum appears in many products, from beverage cans to manufactured components used in homes and businesses. It is useful because it can be formed into different shapes and recycled as a material. Las Vegas Recycling (LVR) lists aluminum among the metals it buys, making it one of the specific materials residents and businesses can ask about.
Where aluminum may appear
Common examples of aluminum-containing products include beverage cans, certain frames, some sheet-metal components and selected hardware. Commercial operations may also encounter aluminum offcuts or components during maintenance or fabrication.
Cans, frames, sheet, and shop offcuts are common places to find aluminum. If plastic, steel, or other parts are still attached, tell us about the whole item, not just the metal.
Basic clues for identifying aluminum
Aluminum is generally lightweight compared with many other common metals, and a household magnet usually does not stick to it. Its surface may look silvery or gray. Those traits can help you begin identifying a material, but they are not proof: other nonmagnetic metals exist, and some finished products use coatings or mixed components.
If you are uncertain, set the piece aside and ask about it. A recycler can advise what identifying information is useful without requiring you to make a technical alloy determination yourself.
Keep recyclable metal recognizable
Try to avoid mixing aluminum with general waste, food debris or unrelated project materials. For an organized worksite, a clearly marked collection area helps staff place metal where it belongs. At home, separating obvious metal items from the ordinary cleanout pile can make a recycling inquiry easier.
Do not dismantle pressurized, electrical or fuel-connected equipment to extract aluminum. Safe handling should always come before scrap recovery.
Aluminum and other metals at LVR
LVR's materials pages also list brass and copper, while its homepage names tin and other metals. A single project may generate several categories. Describe them separately when discussing an LVR drop-off or scrap pickup request, especially if materials differ significantly in size or form.

Frequently asked questions
Does a nonmagnetic item have to be aluminum?
No. Nonmagnetic behavior alone is not enough to identify a metal. Consider other clues and confirm when uncertain.
Can I recycle aluminum from a home project?
LVR lists aluminum as a recyclable category. Ask about the particular pieces and any attached materials before drop-off.
