Recycling Scrap Metal From Home Improvement Projects in Las Vegas
A Las Vegas remodel often leaves pipes, fencing, and fixtures that should be recycled, not thrown in the trash.

Replacing fixtures, repairing a fence or updating a garage can leave behind materials that deserve a second look before they reach a trash pile. Many home improvement projects generate metal pieces that may be recyclable. Las Vegas Recycling (LVR) lists aluminum, brass, copper and additional metals among its recyclable materials, and it operates a local yard for recycling inquiries.
Identify metal left over from your project
Plumbing and hardware work can produce copper pipe, brass fittings or other metal components. Fence repairs may leave metal panels, posts or fasteners. Garage improvements can produce metal shelving and related pieces.
The useful question is what is the material made of? Two objects with the same purpose may use different metals or contain nonmetal attachments. Sorting by appearance may be a helpful start, but if you cannot identify a piece, ask LVR rather than guessing.
Keep project scrap separate from general debris
Construction and improvement debris can include drywall, paint containers, wood, plastics, packaging and metal. A dedicated area for metal keeps it from becoming mixed with unrelated material. It also helps you describe what is ready to recycle.
A remodel pile is not all scrap metal. Pull out the metal you can recycle, and keep drywall, trash, and household junk for a different haul.
Take care with complete equipment
Some replaced items require special procedures before anyone can move, dismantle or dispose of them. Water heaters, electrical equipment, fuel-burning appliances and products with refrigerants are examples where qualified handling may be necessary. This article is not an instruction to dismantle those items.
If you have a complete appliance or other equipment, contact LVR with the specific item and ask what can be accepted and how it must be prepared. Do not remove safety-related components just to make an item appear to be scrap.
Decide whether a yard visit or service request fits
Small loads of metal can come to the yard. Larger piles can be picked up. A dumpster is a separate rental for the debris that is not scrap.
A useful inquiry includes material type, approximate size, location and whether the items are already separated.
