Can You Recycle an Old BBQ Grill, Metal Fence or Shelving?
An old grill, metal fence, or shelving unit often has scrap metal worth recycling in Las Vegas instead of sending it to the landfill.

On this page
An old grill, a section of metal fence, or unused shelving often has scrap metal worth recycling in Las Vegas. Separate the metal from tanks, wiring, plastic, and other parts, then bring the clean scrap to Las Vegas Recycling or ask about pickup.
What about old barbecue grills?
A barbecue grill may have a metal body, but it can also contain burners, wiring, fuel connections, plastic handles or other materials. A propane cylinder is a separate safety consideration and should never be treated as an ordinary piece of scrap metal.
A grill is not all one kind of metal. Tell us whether it is gas or charcoal, and keep propane cylinders out of the scrap pile. Do not disconnect fuel parts yourself if you are not equipped to do it safely.
Metal fences may contain different materials
A fence panel or post may be made from steel, aluminum or another metal. Paint, fasteners, coatings and nonmetal attachments can complicate an otherwise straightforward-looking load. When possible, group related pieces so their material and approximate quantity are easy to explain.
Fence panels are often recyclable metal. Pieces set in concrete or mixed with wood need a closer look, so describe what you have when you call.
What about storage shelving?
Shelving ranges from simple metal frames to assemblies with wood, plastic or composite surfaces. If the shelves can still be used safely, reuse may be preferable to disposal. If they are no longer serviceable, identify their metal components and any attached materials before discussing recycling.
Shelving can be recycled when it is mostly metal. Tell us if plastic, particle board, or hardware is still attached.
Pipes, water heaters and appliances require extra care
Pipes can be made from several metals or from plastic. Water heaters and appliances can contain electrical, plumbing or other components that affect proper handling. LVR's general metal recycling listings do not establish acceptance of every complete piece of equipment.
For any object with a fuel source, pressure system, refrigerant or electrical hazards, use appropriately qualified professionals to handle the equipment. Recycling advice is not a substitute for safe removal procedures.
